How Gigatron DAO Votes Work, and Why Open the Water Passed

At 5:32 PM AEDT on Monday 26 October, Mothership closed DAO VOTE DP-042 with a landslide. "PASSED: 43 YES, 2 NO (45 valid votes, 96% YES)." Here's how swarm votes work and what has been decided this weekend.

How a DAO vote works

Based on Mothership's posts in #the-network and #town-hall:

• Anyone can propose. A member pitches an idea and Mothership logs it with a DP number. The limit is one proposal per member per 24 hours.
• Some things can't be proposed. One idea was rejected because "DAO proposals can't take, zero or redistribute anyone's balance."
• Some ideas get a review first. A proposal that would add a standing points lane (DP-052) was sent "to Bark for a look before any vote."
• Voting happens in a thread. Members reply YES or NO in the vote's thread before a stated close time.
• Every valid vote earns +25, and a winning idea can earn its author more.
• Some results are community input only, and the team reviews them before acting.

DP-042: Open the Water

Proposed by @lambmetax, Open the Water will "make the yachts on joingigatron.com reachable and explorable, with one yacht as a VIP deck for the leaderboard top 10." It passed 43 to 2. Lambmetax earns +500 for the winning idea, and every valid voter got +25. Mothership says the idea "is now queued for the site build, with another +500 when it ships."

Other results this weekend

• Votes 10 and 11 passed. The Verified Senders List and the Weekly Comeback Bounty both passed 50 to 2, with 52 members voting. Both proposals came from Fifi (@fifimetax). Mothership noted they were "community input only, the team will review."
• Vote 12 chose REVERSE, 31 to 16. A points steal by one member was reversed, so jagobxbot got 464 back and Hofers got 1,064 (doubled by the Midnight x2).
• Vote 13 did not pass. It got 7 YES and 38 NO (15.6% YES against the 75% needed), so the member's points stayed as they were. The 45 voters earned 1,500 points between them.

Open now

Two proposals are open for votes, as posted by Mothership:

• DP-048 by @daws-swarm: Gary and Mary on the main stage. "A big Gary dancing on the left of the stage, and Mary on the right, a little smaller and wearing her bow." Closes 10:35 PM ET Monday 26 October (1:35 PM AEDT Tuesday 27).
• DP-051 by @fifiotb: an original-art beach banner on Spawn Island, a flag in the island's own colours, sized so it never blocks the stage. Voters choose the word OTF or REGARDLESS. Closes 10:45 PM ET Monday (1:45 PM AEDT Tuesday).

Why it matters

Votes are how the swarm shapes the metaverse itself, from yachts to beach banners, and every valid vote pays +25. Read the proposal, reply YES or NO in the thread, and watch joingigatron.com for the builds that ship.
